Well the holidays are no over and it’s finally time to start organizing my life again. It’s been somewhat hectic the past few weeks.
In early December I made the decision that I needed to finally upgrade my computer. I had just been mainly waiting for the Intel Skylake processors to release before upgrading. Turns out when I went to order them, they were sold out everywhere. I set up several notifications on various websites, and just kept checking every morning. In the meantime I ordered all the remaining parts, including the motherboard and CPU heatsink, all I needed now was the processor. Finally about a week later I found the processor in stock somewhere and ordered it. As it turns out though, the processor arrived, and the motherboard was still nowhere to be found. The status of my Amazon order simply said “Shipping Soon” for about a week. So I finally contacted Amazon and they informed me that there had been a glitch, so it basically never would have shipped if I hadn’t called. Thanks to Amazon’s great customer service though, after that I had the motherboard the next day! And now most everything was complete…except for my sound card… On black Friday, Creative Labs had a sale for 5.1 speakers which included a sound card as well. I received the speakers, but the sound card was nowhere to be found. I contacted Creative (which btw doesn’t have the greatest customer service) and they sounded almost confused when I asked where the sound card was, the rep asked me “It wasn’t in the box with the speakers?”. Anyway, he finally must have found in his system where the sound card was and said he would request it be shipped right away. By this point it was about December 10th-11th and I was leaving on vacation on the 16th. So I asked if it would be here before then, he said it should be here by the 14th. Safe to say it wasn’t. On December 21st I finally get a shipping notification for it. Luckily they had shipped it USPS because I had submitted a mail hold while I was out. Had they shipped it FedEx or UPS it would have just been dropped off at my front door.
So that was my new computer adventure for the holiday season. I now have all part of my computer here and installed and I don’t know what to even do with it. I still haven’t played the Hearts of Stone expansion for The Witcher. However I already finished the game, so I’m thinking of starting a new playthrough. I also finished the game prior to the fixing the Triss romance so I wouldn’t mind seeing the additional dialogue for myself. What I keep debating is whether or not I should wait for the final expansion before starting a new game, since it will also be pre-ending. After all it’s already 2016 and the second expansion is slated for Q1 2016. It shouldn’t be too long of a wait.
Now here’s the part I dislike most about the beginning of the year. Real life. Bills. Taxes. As it’s the beginning of the year I’ll have to deal with new medical insurance, paying car insurance (because I’m smart and 2 years ago I bought a car in early January), start tracking down W-2s (since I moved last year, have to make sure to notify my previous employers), and also re-applying for income based repayment on my student loans. I go from real life doesn’t exist during the holidays to getting hit in the face by it come January 2nd or 3rd. It’s exhausting. I’m thinking maybe I need to just plan a bank heist, get enough money to pay off all my bills (including student loans) and then I’ll be set. Just one heist. It wouldn’t be an ongoing career change. Movies always make is seem so easy.
Well it’s time for me to go continue playing Fran Bow. I think this game is going to be longer than I expected and it’s certainly been more disturbing that I thought it would be. I wouldn’t completely call it scary, maybe suspenseful, but mostly just weird. If you’re interested in seeing what the game is like, feel free to check out my playlist:
I’ll keep updating the playlist every week, not sure how many more videos it will take to finish the game. Maybe I’ll do a Twitch stream at some point near the end!
Hope everyone had a great holiday season! Onwards into 2016!
